The Cardinals have called up recently signed closer Greg Holland from Class A Palm Beach, where he appeared in two games.
In the corresponding roster move before Monday night’s game against Milwaukee at Busch Stadium, the Cards optioned righthanded pitcher Mike Mayers to Class AAA Memphis.

Holland, 32, signed a one-year, $14 million free-agent contract on March 30. At Palm Beach, he had a scoreless relief appearance on April 5, and a start Saturday in which he pitched one inning and allowed one run on two hits.
