SAN FRANCISCO • As the Cardinals continued several days of roster upheaval, the first moves Thursday were noteworthy not for who returned to the team but who likely won't be.
The Cardinals removed Kevin Siegrist from the disabled list and promptly designated him for assignment. That sheds the lefty reliever from the 40-man roster and probably signals the end of his tenure with the team. Siegrist had been on the DL with forearm trouble, and his season had been polka-dotted with a dip in velocity and health concerns. Siegrist's removal comes a day after the team sent Mike Leake to Seattle for a minor-leaguer, and it comes on the eve of expanded rosters which will herald the arrival of Jack Flaherty and others.
