The Cardinals didn’t commit an error at Chicago’s Wrigley Field over a five-games-in-three days marathon this week, but a couple of misplays in the first inning portended to be their undoing Thursday night in their first home game in 25 days.
But, with some help from Cincinnati reliever Raisel Iglesias, the Cardinals rallied for three runs in the ninth inning for a 5-4 walkoff win before what would have been a screaming crowd had there been one.
Trying to protect a 4-2 lead, Iglesias hit Brad Miller and walked Tyler O’Neill before Dexter Fowler, after fouling off a bunt attempt on the first strike, singled to load the bases with nobody out in the ninth.
