The Cardinals activiated pitchers Sam Tuivailala and Ryan Sherriff before Friday's opener of a three-game series against the Cubs at Busch Stadium. To make room, they optioned pitcher Austin Gomber and first baseman Luke Voit to Memphis.
Tuivailala has pitched in four games and was on the disabled list with a left knee strain. Sherrif, a lefthander, appeared in three games before being sidelined with a fracture of his right big toe.
Gomber did not make any appearances while with the Cardinals after being named the organization's minior league pitcher of the month. Voit also did not play during his brief re-call.
