Ozuna spent all of spring training strengthening his right shoulder after surgery and losing weight to have better fitness for the season.
At the same ballpark and on the same foot where he suffered a season-ending fracture last season, Dexter Fowler was hit Monday with a pitch, but one toe over from the previous injury. Fowler returned to the lineup Wednesday with a bruised big toe on his left foot and little fondness for playing at PNC Park. In the past few years, he has been hit twice on the foot, once breaking it, and again on the kneecap, and in his first year as a right fielder he tumbled over a fence and onto a concrete walkway — all at the Pirates’ home ballpark.
