Adam Wainwright punctuated a dominant first six innings by striking out all three Mets batters he faced in the top of the sixth.
At that point, he had allowed two hits, no runs and no walks. He had thrown just 69 pitches.
Jay Bruce ended the shutout with one swing in the bottom of the seventh.
Wainwright got Yoenis Cespedes to fly out to right to begin the inning, but the next at bat, Bruce blasted a Wainwright curveball 380 feet into the Cardinals bullpen to put the Mets on the scoreboard.
It was Bruce's second home run in as many days and his twelfth career homer at Busch Stadium.
