ATLANTA • Opening Day in St. Louis is a holiday. It must be because no work gets done. There are Clydesdales, often a championship banner to be raised and many times the Milwaukee Brewers as the opponents.
But the usual excitement on Monday will be heightened even further this year by the first-pitch ceremony. It will be thrown by Lou Brock.
“I will attempt to throw out the first pitch,” said Brock, chuckling, by telephone from St. Louis.
Last October, Brock had to have his left leg amputated several inches below the left knee after contracting a dangerous infection.
