Some 300 family members and socially distanced friends came Saturday to pay respects to first-ballot Hall of Famer Lou Brock at Greater Grace Church in Ferguson. Cardinals great Brock, who died at age 81 last Sunday, also was saluted by a hundred or so others at a wreath-laying at the Brock statue outside Busch Stadium, similar to a ceremony that had taken place at Lindenwood University in the morning.
In a largely upbeat service, Brock gained tribute not only for his National League record 938 stolen bases and his 3,023 hits, but for his humanitarian work off the field and for his ministry, a calling he found later in life.
