Brewers jump Garcia for two runs in first

MILWAUKEE • After just one inning, the Milwaukee Brewers already were far ahead of where they were the last time they faced Cardinals lefthander Jaime Garcia on April 14. On that day, Garcia allowed just one hit and struck out 13 in a 7-0 shutout win.

On Wednesday, the Brewers had three hits and a walk from their first four hitters as they scored two runs and they had the bases loaded, courtesy of another walk, before Garcia fanned Martin Maldonado to end the inning.

Garcia, who walked only one in the shutout win, passed Jonathan Villar on four pitches and righthanded batters Hernan Perez and Ryan Braun, who had been eight for 49 against Garcia, both poked singles to the opposite field in right, with Villar scoring on Braun’s hit.
