The Milwaukee Brewers’ last 14 hits over three days had been singles before Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Ramon Flores stroked back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
Aaron Hill singled with one out off Michael Wacha before Nieuwenhuis doubled off the right-field wall, Hill stopping at third. Flores then hit a sharp grounder past Brandon Moss at first and into the right-field corner as both Hill and Nieuwenhuis scored.
