That fell apart quickly.
A one-out walk, a bloop single, a replay challenge on a fluke play at third that didn't go the Cardinals' way and a fielding error turned into four unearned runs that put the Cardinals down 7-0 to the Mets after five innings. The Cardinals finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth, cutting the lead to 7-2.
The Cardinals could have ended the inning twice but couldn't.
It started with a one-out walk by Yoenis Cespedes. James Loney hit a blooper into shallow left that the Cardinals couldn't get to. Cespedes kept going to third, and Adam Wainwright, who was a little late in covering the back, took the throw from Brandon Moss and tried to tag Cespedes on the foot.
