CINCINNATI • There wasn't much Jaime Garcia got away with in the second inning against the Reds, except that is for the most important thing: the lead.
The first five batters of the inning reached base against the Caridnals lefty. The Cardinals had Matt Bowman warming up in the bullpen as the Reds loaded the bases again and again and again. Even the final two outs of the inning were line drives that would have given the Reds lead had they not been right at two Cardinals infielders.
Matt Adams caught one at first base.
