Early on in a run as Cubs manager that now is nearing the end of its fifth season, back before he turned a beloved baseball rivalry on its head, and back before his front office began to turn its back on him, Joe Maddon welcomed a group of media members into the visiting manager’s office at Busch Stadium for his traditional pregame chat. One microphone caught his attention. Maddon spent many nights listening to the KMOX radio waves that carried Cardinals baseball from St. Louis to West Hazleton, Pa. Now 1120 AM was interviewing him. After the interview, as reporters trickled out, Maddon made a request of KMOX producer Ben Boyd.
