Spring training is off to a sour start for the boss of baseball.
When MLB commissioner Rob Manfred last month dropped what seemed like a heavy punishment upon the heads of the sign-stealing Houston Astros, he made two things clear.
He wanted cheating teams to learn a lesson. He wanted everyone else to move along.
But here we are at spring training's start, and along with the new baseballs and bright blue skies, there are fresh reasons to think Manfred’s punishment fell short. Fans are questioning his judgement again. And no one outside of Houston and the commissioner’s office seems all that interested in turning the page.
