BenFred: Miller demonstrates that betting on relievers is a risky deal

For a guy who has fumbled just 12 of the 65 save opportunities handed to him since he became a full-time reliever in 2012, the lanky lefthander knows how to own an outing that blew up in his beard.

What seemed to be on its way toward the Cardinals’ first home win of the season instead became perhaps the worst outing of Miller’s relief career. The two-time All-Star allowed two walks, two homers and four runs to the Padres during an eighth-inning fracture that produced a 6-4 San Diego win. Concerns about Miller grew again. They’re nearing his height.
