Before he let rookie reliever Dean Kiekhefer become a grand-slam victim of Jayson Werth in Sunday's loss to Washington, Mike Matheny did something he has done even more often than stir debate about the Cardinals manager's bullpen management.
He won a game. Two, actually. And they were somewhat noteworthy, because victories against the Nationals on Friday and Saturday brought Matheny to, then past, the 400-win milestone. The 45-year-old hit No. 400 in game 697.
Now, the 400-win club isn't a big deal for managers. One hundred sixty-four of them have won more games, including the guy that won at Kiekhefer's expense Sunday.
