A video of Cardinals rookie reliever Jordan Hicks throwing a pitch a whopping 105 mph flashed on a screen, and a chorus of "oohs" and "ahhs" followed.
The only difference was the ones shaking their heads in disbelief were not fans, but Hicks' teammates who happened to be sitting beside him at the 61st annual St. Louis Baseball Writers' Dinner.
Harrison Bader, Jack Flaherty and Yairo Munoz see Hick's stuff live, and they still have a hard time believing their 22-year-old teammate throws a baseball faster than any other major leaguer.
Hicks does not want the number he has at times been asked to sign alongside his autograph — 105 — to define him as a pitcher.
