JUPITER, Fla. — If this Cardinals camp was the only context worth considering, the call would be pretty easy, and there is a good chance it would have been made by now.
Tres Barrera has outplayed Andrew Knizner so far this spring training. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said so before Tuesday’s 4-4 tie against the Nationals. That’s with 20 Grapefruit League games down, and just seven to go.
Barrera, the minor-league free agent signed in January to compete for the backup job behind new Cardinals starter Willson Contreras, has made more out of limited playing time than Knizner has out of plentiful playing time.
