The phone call came in November of 2014.
Cardinals farm director Gary LaRocque congratulated Tyrell Jenkins on the pitcher's strong performance in the Arizona Fall League, then told him he had been traded. Jenkins was informed he had been swapped in deal that, he found out later, sent him and Shelby Miller to the Braves for Jason Heyward and Jordan Walden.
"Just trying to figure out what's going to happen next," Jenkins, 23, recalled Friday afternoon at Rodger Dean Stadium. "You get traded, and you try to figure out where you're going, if you know anybody on the new organization.
