You won’t find a better highlight than Paul DeJong’s game-ending play in the Cardinals’ 8-7 win against the Pirates on Monday, a web gem made just minutes after a throwing error by the second-year shortstop helped the Pirates plate a run.
After shaking off the mistake, the 25-year-old shortstop sprinted two feet into left field to glove Francisco Cervelli’s two-out grounder. The stop was impressive. The throw to first base, with the tying run racing for home, was insane.
When the Cardinals signed DeJong to a six-year extension this spring, the bat was the one to bet on.
