Of all the memorable moments from this year's St. Louis Baseball Writers' Dinner, one stood out.
It wasn't So Taguchi saying hello from Japan via video, or Tony La Russa narrating his former club's path to the 2006 World Series. It was the Mitch Harris acceptance speech.
The Cardinals reliever thanked the fans. He thanked the writers who awarded him a Stockton/Broeg Award. He thanked the Cards for giving their 2008 draft pick a chance after he finished nearly five years of service in the Navy.
"I can't tell you how much that means to me, to show what (the Cardinals) organization is about," Harris told the crowd and KMOX listeners.
