Perhaps something sensible can be agreed upon before the Cardinals' 12-man pitching staff grows back to the 13-man version manager Mike Matheny prefers.
Because unless Matheny has changed his mind on a belief he has held for years, or unless the front office has decided to stop gritting its teeth to grant the manager's wish, this recent shift to the 12-man staff will be temporary.
This time, it appears to be the byproduct of upcoming off days (more down time for the pitchers), the hot bat of newly-promoted reserve outfielder and pinch-hit option Tyler O'Neill and the tender groin of starting center fielder Tommy Pham.
