PHOENIX — The compliment worth its weight in Gold Glove awards came late Saturday night at the end of an answer Yadier Molina gave about the value — “at this age,” he said — of the occasional day off.
He gave a nod to his backup, Andrew Knizner.
“Doing really good calling games and winning games,” Molina said. “So you’re going to see that for many games on the road.”
From a veteran who prefers to play as many games as possible, the second sentence says everything about the advancement Knizner has made this season, his first full season as Molina’s backup.
