Backup catcher Fryer shines in Cardinals' win

In his first start of the season, Cardinals catcher Eric Fryer extended his hitting streak with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The backup catcher's shot to left-center field was the pivotal hit in the Cardinals' 4-3 win over the Reds at Busch Stadium on Sunday.

Closer Trevor Rosenthal entered in the ninth and recorded the save. Reliever Kevin Siegrist got the win.

Fryer, who made the roster when backup catcher Brayan Pena went on the disabled list, is 6 for 6 at the plate in 2016. The last Cardinal to start 5 for 5 was Eli Marrero in 2002.
