Two years after committing more than $80 million to Dexter Fowler as their center fielder and one year after clearing the position so Tommy Pham could start there, the Cardinals have cranked the carousel up again and are counting on rookie Harrison Bader to man center for the 2019 season. Center field was once a backbone of the ballclub, connecting Terry Moore of the Swifties to Jim Edmonds of the Aughts. Pham was the seventh Cardinal to lead the position in games played since Edmonds left. Bader will make eight in 12 seasons. The Cardinals have traded or moved their other options.
