With this year’s unorthodox trade deadline rapidly appearing on the horizon, the team that has played the fewest games in the majors has a series of immediate questions this week to answer within its walls before peering outside at the possibilities.
“As the team we planned, we’ve only been together for five games, and internally we’re asking ourselves, ‘Who are we? What do we look like?’” said John Mozeliak, Cardinals president of baseball operations. “When you start asking about the trade deadline, we have to first think about what we look like in the coming days and the decisions we have to make first.
