JUPITER, Fla. • Jose Oquendo, now a roving minor-league infield instructor instead of third-base and infield coach, will be on the big-league side for only about two weeks this spring. No one is more aware of how concentrated that period of work is than new first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, a three-time Gold Glover.
“Yesterday, Jose was telling Paul, ‘I’ve only got two weeks before I head to the minor leagues,’” related Carpenter on Sunday. “Paul’s response was, ‘I’ve got to make sure we get some one-on-one time because one of the main things I wanted to do was learn from you when I get the chance.
