Asking prices have been high for starters. The Cardinals and other buyers, like Houston and the Yankees, are in a staring contest with sellers to see who blinks before the deadline.
“I’m somewhat optimistic that the market hasn’t opened yet,” general manager Michael Girsch said. “The industry hasn’t found the right sales price for all the stuff that is out there. I’m hopeful that at some point we can find that right price and make the move we’re trying to make.
