PHOENIX • The Cardinals carousel of right fielders landed Wednesday evening on Harrison Bader, the rookie whose performance in the outfield keyed the rotation in the first place.
Bader's success against lefthanded pitchers and then sterling, hit-stealing defense at any of the three outfield positions led the manager Mike Matheny and the Cardinals finding more playing time for him and moving veteran Dexter Fowler into a complementary or even platoon role. This week has expanded the search for production from that position.
Now as the Cardinals go for the series victory against Arizona and Patrick Corbin, a lefty, Bader is back in the starting lineup.
