WASHINGTON • One of the ripple effects of promoting reliever Mitch Harris to the majors on Tuesday was that the Cardinals had to clear a spot on the 40-man roster and that meant the possibility of losing a player.
They did.
But he wasn't a player they had long.
The Los Angeles Angels, who once traded a first-round pick outfielder to the Cardinals, claimed Gary Brown, a former first-round pick outfielder, off waivers on Tuesday. Brown had been placed on outright waivers to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Harris. Brown had been picked up off waivers from the Giants at the beginning of the regular season.
