An error early leaves the Cardinals scrambling late, losing to Washington, 2-1

When Yairo Munoz fumbled the fielding on a grounder and then threw wide of first base, that allowed one run to score to tie the game and a runner to advance to third base. When starter Dakota Hudson got the grounder that Munoz was able to convert into a double play, the go-ahead run scored, and the rest of the game left the Cardinals trying to position for a response.

In each of the final four innings the Cardinals got the tying run on base, and in each of those innings that runner got as far as third base twice.
