WASHINGTON • A backstop Yadier Molina emulated as a boy, Sandy Alomar Jr., bent the knees that sometimes betrayed him as a catcher, took a seat, and tried to describe the ways Molina has revolutionized their position to increase his durability.
He pantomimed how Molina sometimes gloves bouncers like an infielder to get in a better position to throw, how Molina waits to drop to his knees to avoid telegraphing a curveball and to protect the joints, and how his stance doesn’t give away his pitch call. Alomar, during a recent visit to Busch Stadium, tried to think of other catchers who were similar.
