JoJo Romero had never thrown 100 mph in a game. The left-handed Cardinals reliever touched 99.3 mph last September once and has thrown seven total pitches at or above 98 mph in the big leagues since he debuted in 2020.
Then came his Sunday outing for Class AAA Memphis, when a fastball of his reached triple digits.
“I didn't really feel too different and then heard about it after and I was like, 'Wow, that's pretty cool,’” Romero said Tuesday after he was recalled to the majors from Class AAA on Tuesday.
Romero, 26, was called up to the Cardinals for the first time this season after Andre Pallante was optioned to Memphis following a one inning outing on Monday against Arizona during which he gave up a grand slam in the Cardinals’ 6-3 loss.
