JUPITER, Fla. • After being considered the Cardinals’ starting first baseman at several junctures in the last three seasons, Matt Adams found himself off the playoff roster last October when the Cardinals lost to the Chicago Cubs in a National League division series.
Having missed 91 games following right quadriceps surgery, Adams was activated off the disabled list in September, but not much happened.
“I was given clearance,” he said. “But it didn’t feel the way I wanted it to feel.”
Adams hit just .226 in 31 at-bats in the last three weeks of the season and, when the 25-man playoff roster was announced, he wasn’t on it.
