SEATTLE -- Matt Adams was a game-time scratch by the Cardinals on Friday due to lower back tightness. He was replaced at first base by Jedd Gyorko, whose only previous start at that position came a week ago.
Manager Mike Matheny's original lineup for his club's series opener in Seattle featured Adams as the team's sixth-hole hitter. Brandon Moss replaced him in that batting order spot, while Gyorko slid into the No. 8 place.
