6-foot-8, 16-year-old right-hander Reiner Lopez headlines Cardinals international signees

When it comes to the international free agents signed by the Cardinals on the day the international signing window opened, one player stands above the group quite literally.

Reiner Lopez, a 6-foot-8, 16-year-old right-handed pitcher from Venezuela was the headline signing from the 17 players the Cardinals acquired on Jan. 15 when the international signing window opened. Lopez, who doesn’t turn 17 until April, has been described by the Cardinals as the pitcher with the most upside and one the team identified early.

The 196-pound teenager possesses a four-pitch mix of a fastball, changeup, slider, and curveball.
