106-year-old Cardinals fan throws out first pitch

Arnold Vouga brought the heat, and the memories.

Before Friday night's game between the Gateway Avians and the Motor City Bengals, the 106-year-old Frontenac resident fulfilled a fervent wish and throw out the first pitch.

Vouga, who has lived his entire life in Frontenac and served as the city's first building commissioner, said he has rooted for the Cardinals his entire life as well.

"I remember back to the 1926 World Series, with the Yankees, who had Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig," said Vouga. The underdog Cards beat the heavily favored Yankees in seven games.
