We're less than three weeks away from the 2015 MLB trade deadline, which means there are plenty of rumors swirling around the St. Louis Cardinals and what they might do on the trade market. With that being said, here's the last in our Cardinals Trade Rumors Roundup For July 12th.
Cardinals In Desperate Need Of A Bat Before The Deadline?
Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch seems to think so:
"The more immediate concern is an offense that requires a transfusion. And while the awaited return of Matt Holliday is a plus, he's only one bat. The Cardinals need more bang than that."
The current "best hitter" available is Oakland A's utility man Ben Zobrist, who may not exactly fit a need for the Cards. However, there are likely to be plenty of other options that crop up as the days go on that no one is currently talking about.
Could St. Louis Stay In-House For Hitting Help?
If the Cards decide to stand pat come July 31st, keep an eye on Stephen Piscotty who has been mashing at AAA Memphis this year. Piscotty is likely the organization's top hitting prospect and could be a safer bet for GM John Mozeliak as he looks to fortify the lineup going forward.
There's also journeyman hitter Dan Johnson who was promoted from Memphis to the big club on Wednesday. The 35-year-old knocked in two with two hits in his debut, showing trademark patience and a live bat early in his time with St. Louis.
