The St. Louis Cardinals are in the market for an impact bat this offseason, and no free agent may be more impactful that Baltimore Orioles 1B/OF/DH Chris Davis.
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the St. Louis Cardinals are one of two prohibitive favorites to sign the 2015 MLB home run champ.
"To me, he's going to end up with either the Giants or the Cardinals," Olney said.
Davis has never played in the National League. However, he's still a versatile piece who can be slotted in either at first or the outfield corners. He slashed .262/.361/.562 with 47 home runs and 117 RBI, but he did strike out 208 times this season -- marking his fourth straight season with 169 strikeouts or more.
The 29-year-old slugger is expected to refuse a likely one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer from the Orioles. He's likely to get more than that on a per year basis on a multi-year contract.
