The St. Louis Cardinals added a veteran piece to their bullpen on Friday, acquiring RHP Jonathan Broxton and cash from the Milwaukee Brewers for OF prospect Malik Collymore.

Broxton, 31, is a two-time All-Star who has run into a bit of bad luck with the Brewers this year -- posting a hefty 5.89 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. However, his 9.08 K/9 rate and 2.45 BB/9 rate shows that Broxton still has his stuff, even if he's been hammered when leaving pitches up in the zone.
The Cardinals have been on a quest to makeover their bullpen prior to today's MLB Trade Deadline, adding former Miami Marlins closer Steve Cishek to the mix earlier this week. With Jordan Walden coming back, the Cardinals will have some order of Broxton, Cishek and Walden lining up in front of closer Trevor Rosenthal.
