Oskar Sundqvist, a Boden, Sweden native, was drafted 81st overall by the Penguins in the 2012 NHL Draft. The Penguins were focused on drafting a right-handed center to bolster their offensive depth, and his work with the Swedish Elite League’s Skellefteå and the Sweden men’s national junior ice hockey team caught their attention.
Sundqvist split his time between the Penguins, the Pens’ AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the Blues, and the Blues’ then-AHL affiliate, San Antonio Rampage, before signing a four-year, $11 million contract extension with the Blues on July 21, 2019.
