The biggest development out of the NHL general managers meetings in Las Vegas prior to Wednesday night's awards ceremony was that overtimes will look different next season.
In an effort to reduce the number of games that go to shootouts (hurray for that), games will now go from being 5 on 5 to being 3 on 3. In the past, it's been 4 on 4, but now, they'll take two players off the ice. With plenty of space to work with, the expectation is there are more likely to be goals scored in the five minutes.
The plan needs the approval of the NHL Board of Governors, which will meet Wednesday in Las Vegas.
