The Connecticut Huskies face St. John’s in a game destined to bring up nostalgia from the St. John’s fans. UConn has not played St. John’s in eight years — since UConn and the Big East name parted ways.
(Technically, St. John’s, Villanova and the other schools broke away from the Big East but purchased the name, while the football schools rebranded as the American Athletic Conference.)
The onetime member of the Big East has come back to enjoy a more basketball-centric conference that affords more game to game competition, and due to a cancellation in December, this will be the first meeting of longtime foes.
