Real Madrid Reveals Plans for Esports Arena at Upgraded Stadium

Spanish soccer club Real Madrid revealed renovation plans for its stadium, the Santiago Bernabéu, including the addition of a new esports area. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2019 and the project is expected to take about three and a half years to complete.

The Bernabéu has hosted Real Madrid home games since 1947. The new stadium is expected to match the current capacity of 80,000 fans, but will also include a retractable roof. Notably, Real Madrid’s concept video depicts a space in the stadium with two esports teams playing in front of monitors, with large screens behind them showing gameplay and team imagery.
