Atlético Madrid, a Spanish soccer club which competes in La Liga, is lighting up the pitch in its move to a new stadium — literally.
Through a four-year partnership with electronic company Philips, which works with over half of football stadiums worldwide, the new stadium scheduled to open next year will be the first to be entirely lit with LED technology. Philips’ ArenaExperience technology will assist in transitioning the pitch into a colored spectrum.
“A very important step which will place our stadium at the forefront of technology and that, as we have seen in the video, will allow us to shine more brightly,” Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo said in Spanish at the announcement.
