U.S. Soccer has long advertised its “One Nation, One Team” slogan. But on Thursday those words were put on display in a heartfelt gesture for those affected by last Sunday’s nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fla.
Ahead of its Copa America quarterfinals match against Ecuador in Seattle, USMNT captain Michael Bradley sported a rainbow captain’s armband. There was also a moment of silence in memory of the 49 victims who were killed in what President Barack Obama deemed an “act of terror and hate.”
In addition to the gesture, MLS side Orlando City SC is dedicating Saturday’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes to the #OrlandoUnited efforts, including a midgame stoppage for silence to honor those affected.
