January may be the best hot stove month for an American soccer fan—not only is the international January transfer window open, but domestically, we’ve now got free agency for the first time ever, the MLS Combine, and, just over a week from now, the MLS college draft, aka the SuperDraft.
Historically, Sporting Kansas City has picked well under Peter Vermes in the MLS SuperDraft—Matt Besler, Dom Dwyer, Roger Espinoza, and Chance Myers were all first-round picks by Sporting KC, and amazingly, Graham Zusi fell to the second round in the 2009 SuperDraft before Sporting swooped in, picked him up, and the rest was history.
