Sporting Kansas City forwards Dom Dwyer and Diego Rubio underwent successful surgeries on Thursday.
Dwyer, 26, had arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs in his right ankle. The surgery was performed in Kansas City under the care of the team’s orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kirk McCullough. Dwyer is expected to make a full recovery ahead of Sporting Kansas City’s preseason campaign in January.
Rubio, 23, had surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee and will also return to Sporting Kansas City for the 2017 season.
Dwyer bagged 16 MLS goals in 2016 to become the first player in club history to score at least 12 times in three straight regular seasons.
