On Feb. 13, 1920, African American baseball manager Rube Foster gathered among several other individuals tied to America's pastime at Kansas City's Paseo YMCA. By the time the meeting had ended, the Negro leagues were born.
Exactly 101 years later, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum—located at 1616 E. 18th St. in Kansas City's historic 18th & Vine District—celebrates the momentous anniversary of the Negro leagues, which gave Black professional baseball players a platform to showcase their talents from the 1920s to the 1950s.
Founded in 1990, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum has served as a shining beacon that preserves the history of Negro league baseball in America and underscores the organization's role in paving the way for racial integration in sports leagues across the nation.
