Sporting Kansas City waives midfielder Jordi Quintilla

In 11 days, the Major League Soccer summer transfer window will open, allowing Sporting Kansas City to strengthen its roster.

On Wednesday, the club created an extra open roster spot.

Sporting KC waived midfielder Jordi Quintilla, ending his tenure with the team after only 11 months. Quintilla, 22, joined Sporting KC last August and appeared in 15 matches across all competitions.

His most notable highlight came in the U.S. Open Cup championship match, when he converted the game-winning penalty kick as the club defeated Philadelphia last September.

Quintilla opened the 2016 campaign as a starter, but he quickly moved down the depth chart and had played only once since April 13.
